Christmas through the eyes of a child
This year it is like i am seeing Christmas for the first time through the eyes of a child with child like faith. Each night we have been reading the passages during our advent time from the Bible. That He was God’s plan from the very beginning, that He was a fulfillment to all of the prophesies spoken of Him over 700 years before He was born, that He was God’s son, and God’s purpose in sending Him. We have also been reading Christmas books, doing Christmas crafts and activities, watching Christmas movies, talking about Him and His birth.
Elijah knew that it was Christmas which is Christ’s Birthday Party and I was soooo giddy Christmas morning i couldn't wait for my little ones to wake us up so we could officially start the party!
He was so excited to see the house full of balloons for Jesus’ party. We even let one fly up to the heavens today as the snow was coming down.
He scurried around the house with daddy trying to find all of the stars. Under each star was a present for Jesus…
We opened up all the gifts and presented them to Jesus. Each year we work on special gifts for Jesus. i know God was smiling when Elijah opened his “BIG, BIG” picture that he painted. As a family this year we gave goats and sheep to a desperately needy family India in His honor (there was a card and i made goats and sheep confetti to pop out so Elijah and Jeriah could understand a little better what that was about)… though we know it is all His money anyway i know He was honored that we chose to do what He would want us to do with it. Tony, our Iraqi friend staying with us, even wrote a note to Jesus and gave a gift to Him. Then we listened to story again for a few moments.
Elijah noticed all our little people group ornaments holding hands like a garland around the tree… and asked me why. We had been hanging up each little person every day on the tree but not like this before. i told him about the end of time when Jesus comes back, that the Bible says people from every tribe tongue and nation will be worshiping Him together and that is what Heaven will be like.
i was also amazed at the beautiful party decorations that God did! He made it snow on Jesus’ Birthday! i am convinced He did that just so Elijah could see again how amazing He really is. We even went on a few sleigh rides before we went to the other parties!

Christmas Tradition # 6: Mistletoe
Tradition #5: Christmas Coffee Table Books
Every year i put all of our Christmas season pictures in a small 7" x 7" hard back coffee table book. Each book tells the story from a different person (or people) in the Bible and when they realized who Jesus was. Also, there are lyrics to Christmas songs in the book that go along with the story.
Examples:
Christmas 2007: Mary sees Jesus
Luke 1:26-56
Songs: Mary Did You Know, What Child is this, Silent Night
Christmas 2008:The shepherds see Jesus
Luke 2:1-20
Songs: Hark the Herald Angels Sing, While the Shepherd Watched their Flocks by Night, The First Noel
Christmas 2009: The wise men and herod see Jesus
Matthew 2
Songs: Oh Holy Night, We Three Kings, Away in a Manger, The little drummer boy
How do you make a book? Making books is cheaper than printing your pictures and the book lasts till the end of time or at least past your lifetime for sure. :) Plus if the kids get their cute little gooey fingers all over it you can (most of the time) just wipe it off. You can find great sales at inkubook. i like blurb for my baby books but there are a ton of book companies out there. My sister in law uses shutterfly. Also, if you are more of a scrapbooker then I have an aunt whose aunt was the lady who started Creative Memories, so what kind of niece would I be if i didn't put a plug in for their books.
Will i run out of material for the books? Why of course not, there are plenty of people in the Bible who realized who Jesus was... even before He was born... so i have a feeling i will have enough stories for the years to come. Though we may run out of Christmas songs... i will have to get my talented friends to make up some for me. It is great having the lyrics on hand because we like singin' and dancin'... even though we can't carry a tune. He just said to make a joyful noise anyway right?
Oh come, let us sing to the LORD; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into His presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to Him with songs of praise! For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods. Psalm 95:1-3
Will you make me one? Of course i will ....for baby money... that is money to bring our precious Ethiopian baby home. These books are a great way to remember your family celebrations. If you get me your pics i can make you one, a baby book, wedding album, or a book for any occasion.

Tradition #4:Gifts for Him
Christmas is Christ's birthday party! Did you know He came to the earth over 2000 years ago and the world is still talking about Him? Though we give to God throughout the year, this is a special occasion where we take time as a family to celebrate the birth of Christ, praise Him and give Him gifts!
All month, with our children, we talk about possible gifts each of us can bring to Jesus' Birthday Party. On Christmas morning we bring the gifts. They can be anything that we think would bring joy to the Lord. A song, a picture, something that we can give to someone in need, something we can do for someone in need or some special way of showing love to someone... this year as a family we are going to give a gift to Him from my FAVORITE CHRISTMAS CATALOG EVER! I want to circle everything!
Also, I think I am going to do an idea from this site (10 things to do on Christmas when all the gifts are for Him) this year and when the boys wake up I will have little crowns for them to wear like the wise men and they can do a treasure hunt around the house searching for the Star (and at "the star" I will put the last pocket, with the story ornament, treats, and baby Jesus (for the Nativity).
Our kids are so blessed… well beyond what a person needs and wants! They receive gifts all throughout the year! God is so good to us!! I was just thinking this morning about the blessings we have that millions of people throughout the world don’t….too much food in our pantry and fridge, a warm house, beds, too many clothes, even clean water. So as a family on Christmas morning we give to Jesus… which essentially is giving to others in need because that is what brings Him pleasure.
Maybe you think I am crazy... but God is doing something in me.. and I can’t get the reality of the 26,000 children that will die today of starvation and preventable diseases out of my mind. I know my little family can make a difference. We want our children to learn to be content, to give, and to love like Jesus does.. those are some of the biggest presents we feel that we can give them this year.
GREAT GIFT IDEA: If you like to give gifts at Christmas to others this catalog has great gift ideas for the person who has everything! You can give a gift in someone’s name and Global Partners will send them a Christmas Card with the details about the gift that was given in their honor. Proverbs 22:9 , Proverbs 28:27
